Heatwave H2-Oh! Sip happens.
The sunlight looks warm and inviting and then bam - you step outside during a heatwave. Somehow it seemed more inviting inside, ya know, inside in the AC. If you need to leave your house during a heatwave (or quite frankly what your body also considers a heatwave), here are some tips to help you stay hydrated.
Water - Sure, this may be an obvious one, but it is so important. Most people wait until they are thirsty but at that point you are dehydrated so it's helpful to sip throughout and not wait until you are thirsty. Water boring to you? Give it a makeover with some lemon or cucumber and mint. Keep the water cool, not freezing cold, so you don't shock your system. A fun water bottle can accessorize your outfit and announce you as a person with style.
Coffee - As a dehydrator, coffee won't work for hydration (yes, even though you make it with water!). Before you say not-so-sweet-nothings to me, if you need your coffee just balance it out and drink a glass of water as well.
Electrolytes - During intense heat, you also lose electrolytes. So replenish them with drinks that have a balance of sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Of course, you may want to glance at the label for sugar content too so you don't have other problems!
Snacks - Hydrating snacks look like watermelon, strawberries, and oranges. These are jam-packed with water and nutrients. They can also help satisfy a sweet craving, bonus.
Clothing - Ditch the all black clothes and opt for some lighter colored clothes made of breathable fabrics. These will also help reduce your sweat loss. By the way, imagine how hot bandits must be if they do their capers during a heatwave.
Exercise - Hydrate before, during, and after.
Noticing the trend here? Much of staying cool involves a proactive approach rather than a reactive one. And if you forget, your body will be sure to remind you through dizziness, fatigue, or even a headache. So stay cool out there and sip smart. Cheers, my friends! I raise a glass of cool electrolyte beverage with lemon and berries to you.

The Ultimate Drool: Sweet Treats for Sweet Pups
Simplicity is key. The other day, I thought I would get a whole bunch of ingredients out and whip together some fabulous treat for my dog only to realize that my give-a-crap meter was running low. No problem - I found a simple recipe with one ingredient - sweet potato. Sweet Potatoes are loaded with fiber, vitamins, and natural sweetness that pups drool for. That's what I call undercover nutrition. Check out the simple recipe below.
Set your oven for about 250 degrees Fahrenheit or so. This slow low temperature will make the treats chewy, not rocks, which helps protect their teeth (and yours if you try them!).
Scrub the oval sucker and carefully slice it into 1/4-inch thick pieces. Of course, tailor the size to your pet. For example, my little Yorkie would love giant long straws of these treats, but that wouldn't be good to maintain his figure. So I slice and dice like a kitchen ninja quite a bit for him.
Now bake them off in a single row on parchment paper (easiest) for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or so. Flip halfway like nearly all recipes call for. You'll know they are done when they are a chewy consistency. It's like the difference between a store-bought chewy cookie and the kind I make hard-as-a-rock, unfortunately, at home.
Excitement ensues, but nobody likes a burned mouth so cool those treats completely before giving it to your pup. To avoid multiple apron sessions, make the amount you will want for about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks and then store them (once cooled) in an airtight container.
As with everything, sweet potatoes have calories, so make sure you give the treats in moderation. One ingredient, check. Little clean-up, check. Delicious and nutritious, check and check. My apron time is done here. Enjoy!

Floating in Your Dreams? Wake Up and Float.
Aghhhh, the Maldives... sunshine, great beaches, luxurious resorts. So incredible that you feel like you're floating. But, get this, you will actually be floating. That's because the Maldives has the world's first floating city in the Indian Ocean. If you're asking why would there be a floating city, the answer is really one of necessity. The Maldives' highest natural point is about a bit above over 7 feet above sea level. With rising waters threatening the land, why wait until the ocean claims the land? The Maldives took things into their own hands and the land claims the ocean. Take that, rising waters!
The city is made up of hexagon-shaped floating platforms to mimic the natural beauty of coral reefs and has houses, shops, and schools. Think less gridlocked rush hour traffic and more peaceful living. Get some fresh seafood at a waterfront cafe and then relax watching the sunset while the gentle waves rock you to sleep. Spas can't even simulate that. You won't get seasick because the city was engineered to stay stable. It was also crafted to thrive in harmony with the environment with solar panels, green spaces, efficient waste management systems, and special construction materials used to hold up, be recyclable and, well, buoyant.
Here's hoping the next party invite I receive will state a location as cool as this place. It's like a luxurious cruise ship without porting. I'd like to stay in luxury, sure. The views would be incredible and the sunset would be reflected twice - once in the sky and once in the water. Imagine when there are rainbows! This city works with the ocean, not against it. Cya, rush hour traffic. I'm in.
